Who is Yako The Monkey?
Yako the monkey was derived from a time when there were actual stuff ed monkey dolls made by the Rushton Toy Company of Atlanta, Georgia. A little girl that I know begged her mother to purchase one of these stuffed monkeys from a church fire sale. She and her sisters played with this monkey, who they named Yako, for many years until it was put aside as they grew into adulthood. Later in life, the girl happened to be remembering back to her childhood and the stuffed monkey, and wished that she still had it. It was suggested to her to look on a well-known auction house and see if the monkey might show up there. In a minute after browsing the Internet, she found the same kind of monkey that she had so much loved to play with as a child. Once the stuffed monkey arrived at her house, he was cleaned and displayed as a reminder of the fun and love that she and her sisters experienced. A gentleman who lived with this girl, now woman, seemed to fall in love with this monkey. They both found that, even being a rarity and an antique, the monkey seemed to become a member of the family who they often found themselves talking to. The gentleman decided, being the monkey was so lovable, it could inspire young children in their developmental stages to adulthood through stories. “The gentleman is the author of this book and the girl, his wife…..”
